Biography

Roger Oakley, a native New Zealander, was born in Auckland in 1943, where he had a conventional suburban upbringing. Pursuing his interest in languages at a New Zealand University, he simultaneously discovered a passion for acting. In 1968, he relocated to Britain, where he enrolled in a part-time drama course and, over the next five years, performed in various British theatres.

In 1978, Roger migrated to Australia, where he initially made a mark as a professional actor with his portrayal of Major Barrington in "The Sullivans" (1976). Throughout the subsequent decade, he appeared in numerous Australian films and television series, rapidly becoming a household name in both Britain and Australia.

In 1989, his iconic role as Tom Fletcher, the patriarchal figure, in the Seven Network's "Home and Away" (1988) catapulted him to widespread recognition, with his departure from the show having a lasting impact on fans, despite his relatively short tenure compared to the series' overall duration.

Since then, Roger has continued to work in television, most notably as Doug Rutherford in the popular TV show "Something in the Air" (2000).
