Biography

Rodger Bumpass, a renowned individual, was born on November 20, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas. His early educational endeavors took him to Little Rock Central High School, where he received his initial training in theater. Subsequently, he attended Arkansas State University, majoring in radio-TV and minoring in theater. During his university days, Bumpass was actively involved with the campus radio station and also worked at Jonesboro's Raycom Media owned ABC-affiliated television station, KAIT-TV, where he assumed various roles, including announcer, film processor, cameraman, audio technician, and technical director.

In 1977, Bumpass's career received a significant boost when he landed a role in the National Lampoon's music and comedy road show That's Not Funny, That's Sick. He toured with the group until 1978, following which he appeared in the TV special Disco Beaver from Outer Space for HBO. The same year, he was cast in the leading role of a National Lampoon film titled Jaws 3, People 0, alongside Bo Derek, but the project was ultimately canceled due to creative differences with the makers of the original Jaws film. In 1980, Bumpass created the character of 'Fartman' for the National Lampoon LP The White Album, which later inspired the Howard Stern character of the same name.

Today, Bumpass is perhaps best known for his work as the voice of Squidward Tentacles and various incidental characters on the Nickelodeon animated comedy series SpongeBob SquarePants. His extensive repertoire also includes voicing The Chief in Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, Dr. Light in Teen Titans, and Professor Membrane in Invader Zim. With over 693 film credits to his name, according to IMDb, Bumpass has been a prolific actor and voice artist throughout his career, which spans several decades. In 2012, he received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for his role as Squidward on SpongeBob SquarePants.
