Biography

Robertson Hare, a British actor, is most famously associated with his portrayals of a bald-headed and hen-pecked husband in the film adaptations of Ben Travers' West End farces. His stage career commenced at the tender age of 20, and he would go on to become a staple of British comedy, known for his trademark antics, which often involved the unexpected and hilarious loss of his trousers during a performance, followed by his signature exclamation: "Oh! Calamity!"

Fast-forward to his later years, at the age of 75, Robertson Hare experienced a resurgence in popularity with a new and wider audience, thanks to his role as the Archdeacon the Venerable Henry Blunt in the beloved sitcom, All Gas and Gaiters. In 1958, he reflected on his illustrious career in an autobiography, providing a fascinating glimpse into his remarkable journey as a comedic actor.
