Robert Robertson Ross Jr. was born in Paisley, Scotland, at the Ross Hospital, to Scottish parents. His grandparents and great-grandparents were also born in Scotland. When he was young, his family moved to Northern California, seeking better weather and employment opportunities, but he continued to visit Scotland to see his grandparents and extended family.
Robert began his acting career in Los Angeles, training with the West Coast Ensemble and studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). He also appeared in numerous television commercials, print ads, and TV shows, including Melrose Place, L.A. Law, and Columbo.
During this time, Robert was selected to screen test for the series regular role of Angus in the show Up All Night, but did not land the part. He then left Los Angeles to further his education at the American Repertory Theatre's Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard, where he was one of eight men accepted into the graduate program.
At A.R.T./Harvard, Robert appeared in over a dozen plays and worked with renowned directors, including Robert Woodruff, Andrei Serban, Kate Whoriskey, and Scott Zigler. After graduating, he joined Actors' Equity and moved to New York City, where he began working in Regional Theater, performing at The Alley Theatre, Bristol Riverside Theater, and Penguin Repertory Theatre.
In addition to his work in Regional Theater, Robert has appeared in Off Off Broadway productions, screen tested for a contract role on As The World Turns, and continued to work in television commercials and films, including P.S. I Love You and Homeland Security.
Recently, Robert has applied his Scottish Brogue to the Motion Capture role of Dr. Malcolm MacIntosh in the video game series Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Audio Fiction Series Podcast A Better Paradise, Volume 1.
Outside of acting, Robert is an avid exercise enthusiast, enjoying long distance lap swimming, daily HIIT and Hills Peleton training classes, yoga, and going to the gym, while also trying to master the NY Times crossword puzzle.
