Robert Levon Been is a multifaceted artist, wearing many hats as a producer, composer, singer-songwriter, and founding member of the iconic band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. With a devoted fan base spanning across Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia, the band has released eight albums and embarked on a world tour since 2001.
Their critically acclaimed record, "Howl", has topped numerous album charts, and in 2013, BRMC was featured in Dave Grohl's Grammy-winning documentary "Sound City". As a member of a musical family, Levon Been was exposed to music from a young age, developing his skills as a multi-instrumentalist.
He made his debut in film scoring with BRMC in 2013, composing music for Jeff Baena's dark horror-comedy, "Life After Beth". For Paul Schrader's latest film, "The Card Counter", Levon Been worked closely with the director to craft tender and nuanced songs that serve as an alternate narrative, conveying the protagonist's inner turmoil and journey.
In an interview, Levon Been shared his experience working with Paul Schrader: "What started off as writing one original end title song, slowly evolved into scoring the full film, but essentially in reverse, in a rather unconventional method. I remember my father working with Paul composing songs for his film "Light Sleeper", starring Willem Dafoe. I was a teenager back then, but everything was very DIY in our home studio, I often recorded bass or guitar parts when Paul wasn't there, but eventually got caught. To be able to work with Paul now, so many years later, is quite surreal."
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of BRMC's self-titled debut album. Currently, Robert Levon Been is busy producing and writing for multiple projects, dividing his time between Los Angeles and Vienna, Austria.
