Biography

Robert F. Hoy, a multifaceted individual, effortlessly transitioned between his roles as a stuntman and an actor, leaving an indelible mark in the entertainment industry.

As an actor, Hoy's most notable role was that of Joe Butler on the critically acclaimed TV Western, The High Chaparral.

As a stuntman, Hoy doubled for some of the most renowned actors in the industry, including Charles Bronson, Tony Curtis, Robert Forrester, Ross Martin, Tyrone Power, David Jansen, and Telly Savalas.

Hoy's impressive filmography includes appearances in notable films such as The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Lone Ranger, Gambler II, Nevada Smith, Bronco Billy, and The Enforcer.

On television, Hoy made memorable appearances in Wanted Dead or Alive, Walker Texas Ranger, JAG, Dallas, The Wild Wild West, Magnum P.I., and The Young Riders.

Aside from his on-camera work, Hoy also served as the 2nd Unit Director and Stunt Coordinator in Spain on the TV series Zorro and the pilot episode of The Three Musketeers.

As a stuntman, Hoy specialized in horse work, but his expertise extended to doubling in fight scenes, car work, and handling high falls.

The list of films in which Hoy doubled for lead actors and others is extensive, including Operation Petticoat, The Defiant Ones, Spartacus, Tobruk, They Call Me Bruce, River of No Return, To Hell and Back, Drumbeat, Wings of the Hawk, and Revenge of the Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Throughout his illustrious career, Hoy held lifetime membership in the Stuntmen's Association, of which he was a founding member. He was also a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, Directors Guild of America, AFTRA, and the Screen Actors Guild (later SAG-AFTRA).
