Richard Raymond is a British filmmaker renowned for his visually striking and emotionally impactful works. Born and raised in London to an Indian family, he developed a passion for film from a young age and began creating his own short films at the tender age of 15.
In 2015, he made his feature film debut with Desert Dancer, a biographical drama starring Freida Pinto, which tells the story of the Iranian dancer Afshin Ghaffarian. The film premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and received widespread critical acclaim.
Raymond's subsequent film, Souls of Totality, was released in 2018 and starred Tatiana Maslany. Notably, it was the first film in history to be shot during a real solar eclipse. The film went on to win awards at 12 International Film Festivals, cementing Raymond's status as a rising talent in the film industry.
In 2020, Raymond directed A Million Eyes, a thought-provoking and visually stunning short film that explores the life of a young gifted photographer. The film starred Joe Morton and Katie Lowes and won awards at 10 International Film Festivals, including being long-listed for the Oscar.
Prior to his work as a director, Raymond produced the British feature film Heartless, starring Jim Sturgess, Eddie Marsan, and Timothy Spall, in 2009. He has also shadow directed several TV series, including Homeland and Quantum Leap.
As a filmmaker, Raymond is not only dedicated to his craft but also committed to giving back to the community. Through organizations such as YoungArts, he is a passionate advocate for arts education for young people in underprivileged areas and has taken on the role of mentor to many young artists who may not have had access to guidance and support otherwise.
Raymond has also made a significant impact in the autism community through the creation of the Celebrity Chef Gala for Autism Speaks. Over the past 15 years, this event has raised an impressive $16 million to support their efforts to provide solutions for individuals with autism and their families throughout all stages of life.
Today, Richard Raymond resides in Los Angeles with his partner, Nousha, and their two children, Rumi and Bodhi.
