Biography

Richard Kiley's distinctive, resonant baritone voice, which earned him a Tony Award for his iconic portrayal of "Man of La Mancha", was unfortunately underutilized in his numerous television and film appearances.

Notably, he won two Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical, firstly in 1959 for his outstanding performance in "Redhead", and then again in 1966 for his signature role as Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha", a production that would forever be synonymous with his name.

Kiley's impressive theatrical credentials also included a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical in 1962 for his work in "No Strings", and another nomination in 1987 for Best Actor in a Play for his powerful performance in a revival of Arthur Miller's poignant drama, "All My Sons".
