Richard Bachynsky Hoover was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, into a family of ten children, nine boys, and one girl. He is a professional film actor, executive producer, and screenwriter. His feature film, Bitter Harvest (2017),is a groundbreaking movie that depicts the tragic man-made famine genocide of Ukraine, known as the Holodomor, enforced by Russia's Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and his Bolshevik communist regime.
As a single father, Hoover has a son, Yevhen (born in Smila, Ukraine in 2008),whom he fathered in Ukraine. Hoover is known for his acting roles in various feature films, TV series, and commercials. He was the executive producer and screenwriter of Bitter Harvest, which features a cast that includes Max Irons, Terence Stamp, Samantha Barks, Tamer Hasan, Lucy Brown, and Canada's Barry Pepper.
The film's post-production was completed in Pinewood Studios, London, UK. Hoover praised his Ukrainian-Canadian producer backer as a "true champ" at the Toronto TIFF Gala in 2017 for taking the initiative to produce the film, despite Hollywood's initial disinterest.
Bitter Harvest was released in over 100 countries, including theatrical and television distribution, VOD, and DVD. It was also shown in many EU, Ukraine, and Canadian embassies and the Canada War Museum for educational purposes.
Hoover has appeared in various other films and TV series, including Major Crime, FX, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Men of Means, The Contract, and The Electrifiers. He has also worked on commercials shot in Kiev, Ukraine, for Israel and Moto Z.
Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, Hoover remains committed to raising his son, Yevhen, and has been involved in various volunteer efforts, including the Maidan Revolution of Dignity in 2013-14.
