Ric Meyers, a multifaceted individual, embarked on his career in 1972 as assistant editor for Atlas Comics. This marked the beginning of a long and storied journey, which would see him take on various roles in the media industry.
As a contributing editor, Ric worked for several prominent publications, including Starlog (1978-1980),Famous Monsters of Filmland (1981),Inside Kung Fu (1991-2011),and The Armchair Detective (1980-1997). His expertise and passion for film and television led him to author numerous books on the subjects, such as The World of Fantasy Films (1980),The Great Science Fiction Films (1984),For One Week Only: The World of Exploitation Films (1983),TV Detectives (1981),and Martial Arts Movies: From Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan & More (2001),to name a few.
Ric's work extended beyond writing and editing, as he collaborated with director Jeff Lieberman to rewrite the horror film Just Before Dawn (1981) in a remarkable one-weekend feat. This marked the beginning of a long-term partnership between Ric and Lieberman, with Ric credited as "Background Research" for the film.
As a novelist, Ric has written and ghost-written numerous books, including Remo Williams (1976-1977),Dirty Harry (1981-1984),The Incredible Hulk (1979),and the Ninja Master (1981-1988). His work has also extended to television, where he served as special media consultant for The Twilight Zone reboot (1985),Columbo (1990),Murder She Wrote (1995),and creative consultant for The Art of Action: Martial Arts in Motion Pictures (2002),Kung Fu Panda (2008),and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).
In addition to his writing and consulting work, Ric has made appearances on various television programs, including A&E Biography (2001-2003),Bravo Profiles (2002),The Incredibly Strange Film Show (1987-1988),and Iron Fist & Kung Fu Kicks (2019). He has also contributed to over 300 martial art movie DVDs.
Ric's numerous achievements have been recognized through his inductions into multiple international Martial Art Halls of Fame and special awards from the Mystery Writers and Science Fiction Writers of America. When not working on his many projects, Ric can be found appearing in films such as The Suppressor and Black Day, should the opportunity arise.
