Reinert Kiil, a Norwegian director, has made a significant impact in the underground film community throughout the 2000s with his gritty, exploitation-style movies such as "The Whore" and "Inside the Whore". Kiil is notable for being the first Norwegian filmmaker to create a reel exploitation movie with a grindhouse aspect, pushing the boundaries of the industry.
Kiil's film legacy began at the tender age of 9, when he started making 8 mm and HI8 shorts in Honningsvåg, Norway. Many of these early works have traveled the world, showcasing at various film festivals. Despite his talent and dedication, Kiil has never received financial support from the Norwegian film commission to produce his movies. As a result, he is one of the few Norwegian directors who has managed to create films outside the conventional system, working with a budget of under $100,000 per film.
After the release of "The House", Kiil became the Norwegian filmmaker who had produced the most movies outside the system. His latest film, "Christmas Blood", was nominated for the Melie Prize in Lund, Sweden in 2017. Currently, Kiil is working on a sci-fi movie titled "Alpha X" and a documentary, further solidifying his reputation as a pioneering filmmaker in the Norwegian film industry.
