Rebecca O'Brien, a seasoned independent film producer with a career spanning thirty-five years, has made a significant impact in the industry. Prior to her success as a producer, she worked her way up the ranks, honing her skills in various production roles.
Her early career saw her serve as a location manager on the critically acclaimed film "My Beautiful Laundrette" (1985) and production manager on several early Channel 4 films. This experience laid the foundation for her future success as a producer.
Rebecca has collaborated with renowned director Ken Loach on fourteen feature films, including the European Film Awards-winning "Land and Freedom" (1995),the European Critics' Award-winning "Sweet Sixteen" (2002),and "My Name is Joe" (1998). Her work with Loach has also yielded the Palme d'Or-winning "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" (2006) and "I, Daniel Blake" (2016),as well as the Jury Prize-winning "The Angels' Share" (2012).
In addition to her work with Loach, Rebecca has produced films directed by other acclaimed directors, including Mel Smith's "Bean" (1996) and Henrique Goldman's "Princesa" (2001).
Rebecca O'Brien is currently a member of the UK Film Industry Training Board and the British Screen Advisory Council. She co-runs the production company Sixteen Films with Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty.
In 2013, she joined the European Film Academy Board, further solidifying her position as a respected figure in the film industry.
