Biography

Raúl García is a highly acclaimed and innovative director from Puerto Rico, born on March 31, 1975, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Growing up, he was passionate about cinema, which led him to pursue a bachelor's degree in Television and Film Production at the Universidad Del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan.

García's early career began with his first TV movie, 'Impacto Mortal', a low-budget production that gained attention from TeleOnce, a major television channel at the time. The movie premiered in 1998 and received favorable reviews, placing second in the ratings that night.

He went on to complete his bachelor's degree and produced his second TV film, 'Complot', an action and espionage drama that premiered in 1999 and broke audience records, placing first in viewership preference. 'Complot' is considered one of the most ambitious Puerto Rican TV films in terms of production and special effects.

In the year 2000, García directed his third feature film project, 'The 7th Angel', a horror movie that premiered on television and was again the number one movie in audience across the Island. The movie was chosen to participate in the New York International Film and Video Film Festival in 2001.

García continued to make short films, including 'Premonition', which won the First Prize at the E-Cinevideo Short Film Festival in 2001, and 'Signaling Home', which was selected to participate in the Belize Film Festival in 2001.

In 2008, García began production on his next feature film, 'Caos', a 'Guerilla' production that took three years to complete. 'Caos' premiered in 2010 and was presented in 12 movie theaters across Puerto Rico and on television through the Univisión Puerto Rico network.

García went on to direct the short film 'Pasión Cibernética' for Acuarela Productions in 2010 and produced and directed his first comedy feature film, 'Una Boda en Castañer', which premiered in 2015 and became one of the most successful films in Puerto Rico's history, raising over half a million dollars.

In 2016, García produced and directed the comedy feature film 'Pepo Pa'l Senado', which was another box office success and was presented in various cities across the United States. The movie was selected to participate in several film festivals, including the Chicago Latino Film Festival, the San Diego Latino Film Festival, and the St Kitts Film Festival.

In 2019, García directed his seventh feature film, 'Another Kind of I Do', a sequel to the hit movie 'A Wedding in Castañer', which premiered in cinemas across Puerto Rico in August and was another box office success. He also directed the TV series 'SUBETE A MI MOTO' for Amazon Prime Studios, a series that reviews the trajectory of the popular Latin boy band Menudo.

García's most recent projects include directing a film based on the life of Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz, Los Reyes de la Salsa, which premieres in theaters at the end of 2022, and the Teen TV series 'Ginayei' for Disney Plus, which is set to premiere in the fall of 2022.
