Randy Spears, born Gregory Deuschle, grew up in Kanakee, Illinois, and later moved to California in the 1980s to pursue a career in straight acting, securing minor roles and also modeling. However, he struggled financially due to the writer's strike in the late 1980s, which led him to enter the pornographic film industry to pay his bills.
As a porn star, Spears achieved significant success, earning dozens of awards, partly due to his acting abilities. Despite his success, he struggled with working in the industry from the beginning, feeling the need to keep his profession a secret from his relatives and fearing it would ruin his mainstream career. He also expressed concerns that working in the industry gave him a distorted view of women and negatively impacted his relationships with them outside the industry.
One of his most notable pornographic film series is the Sex Trek series, which parodies Star Trek, in which he played the lead role of Captain Quirk, a character inspired by Captain Kirk.
Spears was close friends with fellow pornographic actor Jon Dough, who struggled with drug addiction and eventually committed suicide in 2006. Spears set up a fund to help pay for Dough's funeral.
He married ex-adult actress Danielle Rogers, with whom he had two children, but they later divorced. Spears then married manager Gina Rodriguez, aka Demi Delia, in 2006, and they appeared together in the reality show "Mommy XXX" on Sony Pictures' Crackle and Hulu in 2009.
In 2011, Spears left the adult industry and has since been a vocal critic of its effects on youth. Since leaving the industry, he has become the recurring voice of Mind Quad on the FOX series American Dad and appeared on Dr. Drew's Lifechangers on the CW Network.
In 2018, Spears became embroiled in the scandal surrounding Stormy Daniels' fight with President Donald Trump, as he had worked with his ex-wife Gina Rodriguez to help Stormy sell her story. Spears was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal book "The Fixers" in 2020.
In 2020, Spears made headlines again when a fan spotted him working behind the seafood counter at a grocery store in The Woodlands, Texas, and the press picked up the story. Spears has since become an ordained minister and performs weddings and counsels couples experiencing relationship issues.
He has also started speaking at universities and churches about the dangers of pornography and its impact on youth, as well as sharing his personal story of redemption and how religion saved his life. Spears currently resides in Spring, Texas.
