Rakeysh's most notable work is the critically acclaimed film Rang De Basanti (Color of Sacrifice),a 2006 release that won four National Awards, was India's official entry to the Oscars, and received a BAFTA nomination. This film's success paved the way for his next project, Delhi -6, set against the backdrop of India's caste and religious divide. Delhi -6 received widespread critical acclaim, was selected for the Venice Film Festival, and won two National Awards.
In 2011, Rakeysh co-directed the documentary film Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story with Jeffery Zimbalist, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema. This avant-garde documentary explored the evolution of Indian cinema and its reflection of the country's socio-political landscape since independence.
