As a screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, journalist, and plant medicine ambassador, he is at the forefront of exploring the intersection of consciousness, spirituality, and the shamanic revival.
Razam's writing career began as a freelance journalist, covering topics such as consciousness and spirituality for various publications. His work was later compiled into an anthology, "The Journeybook," which he edited alongside other countercultural writers. In 2006, he traveled to the Amazon to learn about ayahuasca and its role in the 21st century. This experience inspired his memoir, "Aya: Awakenings, A Shamanic Odyssey," and its companion volume of interviews, "The Ayahuasca Sessions."
As a podcaster, Razam hosted the popular show "In a Perfect World" for ten years, featuring conversations with luminaries and exploring alternative perspectives on reality. He was also a frequent guest on other podcasts, sharing his insights and wisdom.
Razam's first book, "Aya Awakenings: A Shamanic Odyssey," is a travel memoir that chronicles his three-month journey in Peru, where he sat with over two dozen curanderos or shamans, learning about their culture and the way they see the world. The book explores the visionary medicine of ayahuasca, which can heal, astound, and reveal an energetic ecology that communicates and calls us to be part of it.
"The Ayahuasca Sessions: Conversations with Amazonian Curanderos and Western Shamans" is a companion volume to "Aya Awakenings," featuring in-depth interviews with curanderos, shamans, and western practitioners of ayahuasca. The book provides an introduction to the people who practice shamanism in the modern age, exploring their initiation, healing practices, and connection to the inter-dimensional ecology that plant medicines open up.
Razam has also written, produced, and co-directed the documentary film "Aya: Awakenings," which adapts his memoir into a film narrative. He has also co-directed the documentary series "Shamans of the Global Village" with filmmaker Niles Heckman.
The documentary series explores the shamanic revival sweeping the West, featuring episodes on the Sonoran Desert Toad and the Peyote Cactus.
