Rachel Brosnahan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1990 and is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Midge Maisel in the Amazon Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for which she has won numerous awards including two Golden Globes, one Emmy, and one Critics' Choice Award.
She has also appeared in films such as Beautiful Creatures, and television series like House of Cards, Manhattan, and The Blacklist. Brosnahan's early life was marked by a move to Highland Park, Illinois with her family when she was just four years old. She has a younger brother and sister, and is the niece of the late handbag designer Kate Spade.
Brosnahan attended Wayne Thomas Elementary School, Northwood Junior High School, and Highland Park High School, where she was a member of the wrestling team and a snowboarding instructor. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 2008, and then went on to graduate from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2012.
During her high school years, Brosnahan was cast in her first movie role, The Unborn, while still in high school. She then performed in several television series, including Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy, and In Treatment, before landing recurring roles in series like The Blacklist, Black Box, and House of Cards.
Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Abby Isaacs in the TV drama series Manhattan, which she played for two seasons. She then appeared on stage in several productions, including "Up" at the Steppenwolf Theater and "The Big Knife" with the Roundabout Theater Company.
In 2016, Brosnahan played the role of Desdemona in "Othello" at New York Theater Workshop opposite David Oyelowo and Daniel Craig. She was then cast as the lead role and title character of the Amazon Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which premiered in 2017 and earned her a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice award for Best Actress in a Television Series--Musical or Comedy.
