Pontus Lidberg is a renowned Swedish filmmaker, choreographer, and actor/dancer. He is best known for his award-winning dance film "The Rain" (2007),which earned him numerous accolades worldwide, including Outstanding Achievement in Choreography for Film at the Dance Media Honors, Best Film at the London International Dance Film Festival, and Best Dance Short at the Tiburon International Film Festival.
As a choreographer for the stage, Lidberg has created over 40 works for prominent international dance companies such as SemperOper Ballet Dresden, Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, The Royal Danish Ballet, The Beijing Dance Theatre, The Norwegian National Ballet, Stockholm 59° North, The Royal Swedish Ballet, Morphoses, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Pontus Lidberg Dance.
Lidberg's work has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations, including a New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) nomination for Outstanding Visual Design for his dance and film evening "Within (Labyrinth Within)". His dance film "Labyrinth Within" (2011) won the "Court Métrange du Jury" prize at the Court-Métrange Film Festival in Rennes, France, and Best Picture at Lincoln Center's Dance on Camera Festival in New York.
Lidberg has received several prestigious awards and fellowships, including a finalist award from The Vilcek Foundation for Creative Promise in Dance, a Choreography Fellowship from New York City Center, and a Blodgett Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Lidberg began his training in 1987 with the Royal Swedish Ballet School. He danced with several companies from 1996-2003, including The Royal Swedish Ballet, The Norwegian National Ballet, Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, and The Göteborg Ballet. Lidberg holds an MFA in Contemporary Performative Arts from the University of Gothenburg, Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.
