Philip Michael "Phil" Lester is a renowned British YouTuber, vlogger, and radio personality, best known for his popular YouTube channel "AmazingPhil". He has been presenting the Sunday night entertainment show "Dan and Phil" on BBC Radio 1 alongside frequent collaborator Dan Howell since January 2013, until August 2014.
Born and raised in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, Lester pursued his academic interests in English Language and Linguistics at the University of York, where he earned a degree. He furthered his education by completing a postgraduate program in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television, and obtained a Master of Arts in Video Postproduction with Specialisation in Visual Effects.
In his personal life, Lester has been living with fellow YouTuber Dan Howell since August 2011, and the pair relocated to London in July 2012. They recently built a house together, solidifying their close bond.
As an author, Lester co-wrote a book titled "The Amazing Book Is Not on Fire" (TABINOF) with Dan Howell, which was released in the UK on October 8, 2015, and worldwide on October 15, 2015. The book topped the General Hardbacks Sunday Times Bestsellers list, having sold 26,745 copies in the UK in its first week, and also became a #1 New York Times Bestseller in the young adult hardcover list.
The pair also announced their theatrical stage show "The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire" (TATINOF),which toured the UK in October and November 2015, concluding at the London Palladium. The tour then expanded to the US, commencing at Playlist Live in Orlando, Florida, and ending at the Dolby in Hollywood, CA, on June 24, 2016. The tour was the largest ever by YouTube creators.
In addition, Lester and Howell are set to release a YouTube Originals film and a making-of documentary based on their tour, titled "The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire", on October 5, 2016. This will mark the first time British YouTube creators have released content on the YouTube Red platform. Furthermore, they are releasing a photobook titled "Dan and Phil Go Outside" in November 2016, featuring a personal collection of candid photos and insightful stories from their tour.
