Forgacs is particularly celebrated for his "Private Hungary" series, a collection of award-winning films that revolve around home movies from the 1920s and 1970s. These captivating films offer a glimpse into the daily lives of ordinary people, which would soon be forever changed by the devastating historical events that unfolded off-screen. In 1983, Forgacs founded the Private Photo & Film Archives Foundation in Budapest, a one-of-a-kind repository of amateur film footage.
