Paul Perry is a renowned author, documentary filmmaker, and entrepreneur. He is the co-author of several New York Times bestsellers, including Evidence of the Afterlife, Closerto the Light, Transformed by the Light, and Saved by the Light, which was adapted into a popular movie by Fox.
Perry's work has been published in over 30 languages worldwide, covering a wide range of subjects such as near-death experiences, biographies of authors Ken Kesey and Hunter S. Thompson, and documentary filmmaking. He is the founder of SAKKARA Productions, a film production company.
Perry holds a degree from Arizona State University and an MFA from Antioch University (Los Angeles). He was a fellow at the prestigious Gannett Center for Media Studies at Columbia University in New York City and taught magazine writing at the University of Oregon.
In 1986, Perry's interest in near-death experiences led him to collaborate with renowned author Raymond Moody, MD, PhD, considered the founder of near-death studies. Together, they have written five books on the subject, four of which have become New York Times bestsellers.
Perry has also written biographies of Ken Kesey and Hunter S. Thompson, as well as a book about his journey along the Holy Family Trail in Egypt. His documentary film, Jesus, the Lost Years, premiered at the Cairo Opera House in 2005 and has been broadcast internationally over 50 times.
In 2001, Perry embarked on a two-month journey along the Holy Family Trail in Egypt, following ancient sites and artifacts believed to be the route taken by the Holy Family as they fled from the soldiers of King Herod. His book, Jesus in Egypt, was praised for its stories of the people of Egypt by Booklist and lauded by Publishers Weekly.
Perry's documentary film, Jesus, the Lost Years, was funded by a television producer and premiered at the Cairo Opera House in 2005. The film was released in the Middle East under the title The Holy Family in Egypt, and has been shown on international television over 50 times.
Since the premiere of Jesus, the Lost Years, Perry has started a documentary film production company, Sakkara Productions, which is named after the first stone pyramid. His next documentary, Visions and Miracles: Out of the Land of Egypt, contains never-before-seen footage of visions and miracles that have taken place in modern-day Egypt.
Perry's other documentaries include Afterlife, which explores the fascinating subject of near-death experiences and interviews scientists who have researched proof of a life after death, and Dali's Greatest Secret, which tells the story of a painting done by Salvador Dali of the vision of Hell that was seen by the child visionaries at Fatima, Portugal.
In September 2011, Perry was Knighted in Portugal by the Duke of Brangaca for his film and book work, making him a Chevalier in the Order of Saint Michael of the Wing, the oldest order of knighthood on the Iberian Peninsula.
