Here is the biography of the person:
As a child, I grew up in the midst of creative chaos, surrounded by the film industry. My father, Geoff Murphy, and uncle, Bruno Lawrence, became key role models that guided my future in film. I began helping out on sets, which eventually turned into a professional career in the industry. I worked on films like Goodbye Pork Pie (1980),Carry Me Back (1982),and Utu (1983).
In the late 1980s, I established myself as a key grip for feature films and television, working on projects such as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and King Kong (2005) in the early 2000s.
I then transitioned into a director role, writing and directing the short film SOX in 2000. This led to opportunities to direct on Cloud 9's children's TV drama The Tribe (1999) and later the reality series Sensing Murder (2004),which had one of the highest ratings in New Zealand at the time.
In 2007, I took the leap and directed and produced my first feature film, Second Hand Wedding (2008). With the support of a private investment of $200,000, an experienced cast and crew, and a box office hit, Second-Hand Wedding brought in almost $2 million and played in cinemas for 17 weeks, securing the 7th spot in NZ Box Office records.
I followed up my debut film with the romantic comedy Love Birds (2011),starring Rhys Darby and Sally Hawkins. Despite being affected by a national disaster, it still became the 3rd highest grossing NZ film that year and went on to win the Best Director of a Foreign Film Audience award at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Festival in China.
Throughout my career, I have been involved in developing various projects, ranging from horror and drama to thriller and comedy. My latest film project, Lowdown Dirty Criminals (2020),is an action comedy that delves into a film genre that NZ has seldom explored.
In recent times, I have returned to my roots as a Dolly Grip, specializing in camera movement and collaboration in the storytelling process.
