Biography

Pankaj, a highly accomplished filmmaker, began his illustrious career in 1992 after graduating from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, India, with a specialization in Film Editing.

Following his graduation, Pankaj worked as an assistant editor on the critically acclaimed film 'Bandit Queen' directed by Sekhar Kapur. He then went on to edit numerous documentaries and television serials, honing his skills and building his reputation in the industry.

Pankaj's breakthrough film was 'Kumar Talkies', which marked the beginning of his journey as a one-man crew, producing, directing, shooting, and editing his own films under the banner of Kumar Talkies. His films have been widely recognized and have been screened at various film festivals around the world.

Throughout his career, Pankaj has received numerous grants and awards, including the Hubert Bals, IFA, Jan Vrijman, AND (Korea),Banff, Majlis, Sarai, and Pad.ma grants. He was also awarded an Asia Society fellowship at the Harvard Asia Centre in 2003.

Pankaj is an alumnus of the Asian Film Academy (Pusan) and Berlin Talents (2016),further solidifying his credentials as a respected filmmaker. In addition to his work in filmmaking, Pankaj is also an accomplished curator and teacher, sharing his expertise with others in the industry.
