Biography

Noted comedian and actor, Fries, began his illustrious career on the stage, eventually transitioning to the world of cinema in the early 1910s. By the mid-1910s, Fries had joined the esteemed Keystone Studios, where he had the privilege of sharing the screen with renowned talents such as Bronco Billy Anderson and the legendary Stan Laurel. This marked the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership with Laurel, with whom he would later collaborate on numerous projects at Roach Films. During his time at Roach, Fries appeared in supporting roles for the iconic comedy duo Laurel & Hardy, as well as the talented Charley Chase, and also shared the screen with the incomparable James Finlayson. As the advent of sound revolutionized the film industry, Fries continued to thrive, taking on a wide range of roles in both German-language films and A-list productions, ultimately leaving a lasting legacy in the world of cinema until his untimely passing.
