Ondi Timoner is a renowned filmmaker, acclaimed internationally for her groundbreaking work in documentary filmmaking. She is the rare recipient of the U.S. Grand Jury Prize at Sundance twice, for her films DIG! (2004) and WE LIVE IN PUBLIC (2009). Both films were acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York for its permanent collection.
Since her Sundance wins, Ondi has continued to create award-winning films and series that explore a wide range of topics. Her credits include JOIN US, a documentary about mind control; COOL IT, a film about solutions to climate change; BRAND: A Second Coming, a documentary about comedian and activist Russell Brand's transformation; JUNGLETOWN, a 10-hour series about the world's most sustainable modern town in Panama; COMING CLEAN, a documentary about solutions to the opioid crisis; and MAPPLETHORPE, a dramatic feature film starring Matt Smith, which she also wrote, produced, and edited.
Ondi's most personal film, LAST FLIGHT HOME, premiered at Sundance and Telluride in 2022 and won several awards, including Best Documentary at Woodstock and Dallas International Film Festival, and the Critics Award at Key West Film Festival. The film was also shortlisted for the 95th Academy Awards. Ondi received the prestigious Visionary Award for Documentary Excellence at DOC NYC and the Impact Award at Hamptons DocFest.
Her latest film, THE NEW AMERICANS, premiered at SXSW in 2023 and takes audiences on a journey into the intersection of finance, media, and extremism, exploring the connection between the January 6th Insurrection and the Gamestop Squeeze. The film uncovers the explosive ramifications of our digital future.
