Oliver's journey began in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, where he spent his formative years studying from 1997 until his graduation from the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama in 2000. This marked the beginning of his illustrious career, as he soon landed a role in the BBC's big-budget adaptation of the classic novel Lorna Doone in 2000. He then went on to appear in another BBC production, The Office, in 2001, where he played the character "Ricky Howard" for the first series.
Oliver's impressive resume continued to grow as he starred in the Channel Four comedy series Green Wing in 2004, Nathan Barley in 2005, and The IT Crowd in 2006. He also made a notable appearance in the highly anticipated Sharpe's Challenge in 2006.
Fast forward to 2013, Oliver landed the role of Nick Medhurst, the ATO for the British army unit Bluestone 42, in the BBC Three comedy series of the same name. He played the character for three seasons, from 2013 to 2015, and appeared in all 36 episodes. The show followed Nick's attempts to win the heart of the patrol base padre, Mary, while also showcasing the harsh realities of war and the camaraderie and banter among his unit.
