Oleg Mavromatti, born in 1965 in Volgograd, Russia, went on to found the independent film union SUPERNOVA in 1995, which became a bastion of radical cinema in Moscow. The films produced within this movement, such as "The Green Elephant" (1999) and "Bastards" (2000),gained cult status at the time and have since inspired the creation of fan memes on the internet, with communities daily paying homage to these films.
Mavromatti is also a prominent figure in Moscow's radical performance art scene of the 1990s. His critical performance art and film work have been met with legal repercussions, including the infamous performance "Ne ver' glazam" ("Do Not Believe Your Eyes"),which was part of his film "Holst/Maslo" (2000-unfinished). As a result, his archive was confiscated in 2000, leading to the loss or restricted accessibility of many of his early works, with some existing only on VHS copies.
Since 2000, Mavromatti has resided in Bulgaria and New York. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including monographs such as "Rosyisky actionism 1990-2000" ("Russian Actionism 1990-2000") and art journals like "Art in America."
