Olaf de Fleur, a renowned filmmaker, embarked on his academic journey by studying physics in Reykjavik, graduating in 1995. Since then, he has been actively involved in numerous film projects, comprising both feature and documentary films.
Following a two-year stint with a production company, where he primarily focused on TV documentaries, Olaf founded the independent production company Poppoli Pictures. Under his direction and production, the team created Blindsker, which won the "Best Documentary" award at the Icelandic Film Awards in 2004, and Africa United, which achieved the same feat in 2005.
Olaf's impressive portfolio earned him nominations for the best Icelandic Filmmaker at the cultural DV (newspaper) awards in 2005 and 2006, as well as the best director award at the Icelandic Film Awards in 2005. He was also selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2003 and 2004.
Olaf and his team have completed filming Act Normal, a documentary that follows an English Buddhist monk who decides to disrobe and get married, shot in Iceland and Thailand between 1995-2006. Johannesson is currently working on The Amazing Truth about Queen Raquela, a feature film produced by his own company, Poppoli Pictures, in collaboration with Nimbus Films (dk) and Blueeyes Productions (is).
The film tells the story of a naïve, yet street-smart Filipino ladyboy - a career prostitute who decides to travel to Paris to find love and acceptance, but ends up working at a fish factory in Iceland. After completing The Amazing Truth about Queen Raquela, Olaf is preparing for the Icelandic feature "The Higher Force" in January 2007 and developing the feature "Diary of a Circledrawer" with Screenwriter Stefan Schaefer for filming in early 2008.
