Norman Reedus, a renowned actor, photographer, and producer, was born in the vibrant city of Hollywood, Florida, to a family with a rich cultural heritage of Italian, English, Scottish, and Irish descent. The character, created specifically for Reedus by Frank Darabont, was not originally part of the comic book series, but Reedus's portrayal has become an integral part of the show's identity.
