Antal, a filmmaker of Hungarian ancestry, was born in Los Angeles, California, but later relocated to Hungary in 1991 to pursue his passion for filmmaking by enrolling at the prestigious Hungarian Film Academy.
Following his graduation, Antal ventured into the film and television industry, ultimately deciding to return to his hometown of Los Angeles in 2005 to strive for success in the competitive Hollywood scene.
Antal is most notably recognized for his work on the Hungarian-language film Control, which premiered in 2003 and garnered numerous accolades, including the Award of the Youth at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, as well as a European Film Award nomination for Best Director. The film's setting is intricately woven around the Budapest Metro subway system, with Kontroll serving as the title, referencing the act of ticket inspectors verifying that a passenger has paid their fare.
Antal's foray into American filmmaking began with Vacancy, a 2007 feature film starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson, which was released on April 20, 2007. His subsequent American film, Armored, was released in December 2009.
In 2010, Robert Rodriguez entrusted Antal with the direction of the film Predators, further solidifying his reputation as a talented and versatile filmmaker.
