Biography of a Prolific Director
As a young artist, he embarked on a journey to hone his skills in painting and sculpture at the esteemed Athens School of Fine Arts, ultimately graduating in 1948.
However, his left-wing political affiliations led to a significant turning point in his life, as he was exiled to Makronisos Island following the conclusion of World War II.
Fast forward to the 1950s, he began his directorial career at the age of 28, with the 1954 film "Maghiki Polis" (Enchanted City),which was heavily influenced by the neorealism movement. This marked the beginning of his remarkable journey in the world of cinema.
His subsequent film, "Dracos" (Dragon),released in 1956, garnered widespread recognition both nationally and internationally for its exceptional cinematography, cementing his reputation as a talented director.
In recent years, he faced health challenges, including respiratory problems, which required hospitalization.
Tragically, he passed away on February 22, 2017, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Athens.
