Nicolas Steil, a talented producer and director, began his career in journalism, working in written press, radio, and television. In 1986, he founded his production company, Iris Productions S.A., in Luxembourg.
Throughout his illustrious career, Steil has produced or co-produced over thirty fiction, animation, and documentary feature films in French, English, German, and Luxembourgish. His extensive portfolio showcases his versatility and dedication to his craft.
In addition to his impressive filmography, Steil has played a significant role in shaping the Luxembourgish film industry. Since 1997, he has served as the Secretary General of the Luxembourgish Film Producers' Union (ULPA),which he co-founded. In this capacity, he has worked tirelessly to develop the industry, negotiating with authorities to promote its growth.
On the international level, Steil has held several prestigious positions. In 1989, he became the Exclusive Legal Representative in the Grand-Duchy of International Copyright Collecting Agency, AGICOA. He went on to found ALGOA (Luxembourgian Copyright Collecting Agency) in 1999.
Steil's professional journey also includes a stint as the General Manager of European scheme EURO AIM (Media Program of the European Union) from 1991 to 1996. During this time, he was responsible for helping finance and market European audiovisual productions.
In addition to his work in film and television, Steil has also directed several theater plays. His first feature film, Réfractaire (The Undercover War),which he co-wrote and co-produced, won numerous awards at international film festivals and was selected as Luxembourg's entry in the 2009 Best Foreign Film Academy Award race.
