Biography

Wang Kai's childhood dreams of becoming an actor were not without opposition from his family, but he persevered and enrolled in the prestigious Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 2003. During his time at school, he landed his first role in the 2006 film Cold Autumn, playing the character of Huang Yuanshang.

After graduating in 2007, Wang Kai's breakthrough role came in the 2008-2011 Chinese television series Ugly Wudi, where he played the part of Chen Jiaming, an effeminate make-up artist. His performance earned him recognition and he was soon in high demand. In 2008, he appeared in the Taiwanese drama Calling for Love, where he learned to speak with a Taiwanese accent.

Although Wang Kai was successful in his role in Ugly Wudi, he turned down several other offers that followed, feeling that they were typecast. He later accepted the role of Qi Yong, a rugged and uneducated youth, in the 2012 drama Youth. His acting continued to evolve, and he went on to star in several other roles, but it wasn't until 2014 that he achieved mainstream success.

In 2014, Wang Kai starred in the drama All Quiet in Peking as Fang Mengwei, a police officer, earning the respect of his veteran co-stars with his dedication and acting skills. He also won the China Film Youth Generation Forum Award for his role in the film A Murder Beside Yanhe River.

Wang Kai's popularity soared in 2015 with the airing of The Disguiser and Nirvana in Fire. In The Disguiser, he played the role of Ming Cheng, a loyal and resourceful spy, and in Nirvana in Fire, he portrayed Prince Jing, a determined and upright prince. Both roles cemented his status as a household name in China.

Since then, Wang Kai has appeared in several successful dramas, including Love Me If You Dare, Ode to Joy, Stay With Me, and When a Snail Falls in Love. His hard work and dedication have earned him numerous awards and nominations, solidifying his position as a respected and successful actor in the Chinese entertainment industry.
