Nick Davis, a native of New York City, was born in 1965 to a documentary filmmaker father, Peter Davis, and a writer mother, Johanna Mankiewicz.
He attended the prestigious Collegiate School in New York City, followed by Harvard College, where he was part of the founding members of the improv group On Thin Ice.
Upon graduating in 1987, Davis co-authored the novel Boone with Brooks Hansen, which was published in 1990 and earned recognition as one of the notable books of the year by the New York Times.
Prior to his career in film, Davis honed his skills as a writer and performer with the improv groups Gotham City Improv and You And What Army.
He eventually started his film career on Ken Burns' Baseball, marking the beginning of his journey as a filmmaker.
Today, Davis resides in New York City with his wife, novelist Jane Mendelsohn, and their two daughters.
