Biography

Nejc Gazvoda was born in 1985 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, a city located in the southeastern part of the country, near the border with Croatia. As a high school student, he demonstrated a remarkable talent for writing, compiling a collection of short fiction stories titled "Nothing Escapes the Squirrels", which would go on to earn him prestigious awards, including the Fabula 2006 award for best short fiction book and the Golden Bird 2005 award for innovative writing.

Throughout his career, Gazvoda has established himself as a prolific author, penning three novels and a drama play, all of which have received critical acclaim. His novels have been shortlisted or long-listed for the esteemed "Kresnik" award, Slovenia's highest honor for best novel of the year, and he is often referred to as a leading writer of his generation.

In addition to his literary pursuits, Gazvoda has also honed his skills as a film and TV director, completing his studies at the Academy of Theather, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. His student films, including "Burgundy Red" (2007) and "Caretaker" (2008),have received widespread recognition, with the latter earning him the prestigious "Preseren" academy award.

As a scriptwriter, Gazvoda has also achieved significant success, winning the Grossman award 2009 for best short screenplay with his film "It is easy". He has also co-written a script for the movie "Personal Baggage" (2009) with renowned Slovenian film director Janez Lapajne.

Gazvoda's feature film debut, "A Trip", premiered at the 17th Sarajevo film festival in 2011 and received glowing reviews from Variety and Screen International. The film has since been accepted into several prominent festivals, including the 27th Warsaw Film Festival, 19th Filmfest Hamburg, 12th Plan-Sequence Arras Film Festival, and 22nd Ljubljana International Film Festival, all of which are recognized by FIAPF as category A festivals.

Currently, Gazvoda is working on his second feature film, "Dual", which is sure to further solidify his position as one of Slovenia's most talented and innovative filmmakers.
