Born on November 29th, 1965, in New York, New York, USA, Neill made his screen debut at the tender age of 13 in the comedy "Hero at Large" (1980),opposite John Ritter and Kevin Bacon. He then appeared in the horror flick "Amityville 3-D" (1983),alongside Meg Ryan, before landing a major role in "Old Enough" (1984).

Neill's breakthrough role came in 1986 as Joseph King, Jr. in the film "Joey", where he delivered a moving performance as a rebellious teenager. He then showcased his darker side in "Heat" (1986) with Burt Reynolds and "Fatal Beauty" (1987) alongside Whoopi Goldberg. The film critic Roger Ebert described "Fatal Beauty" as "not a great movie, but it has good qualities".

Neill's next film was the independent film "Slipping Into Darkness" (1988),shot in Fremont, Nebraska, USA. He then appeared in an episode of the hit series "21 Jump Street" (1987) before giving a towering performance as Jill Ireland's adopted son John, who tragically died of an accidental drug overdose in 1995, in the telefilm "Reason for Living: The Jill Ireland Story" (1991).

Over the next few years, Neill had a brief recurring role as Greg Parker in the hit series "Melrose Place" (1992),before returning to film with roles in "She's So Lovely" (1997),"Show & Tell" (1998),and "Friends & Lovers" (1999),which he co-authored the story for. The film starred Stephen Baldwin, Claudia Schiffer, and Robert Downey, Jr.
