Born in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., Keyes was the son of Holly and Dale Gumke, a family that would later relocate to York, Pennsylvania, where he spent his formative years alongside his younger brother Chris.
Following his high school graduation in 2004, Keyes made the bold decision to leave his hometown behind and set his sights on the City of Angels, Los Angeles, where he began to forge a career in the creative arts.
Initially, Keyes worked as a graphic designer, applying his artistic talents to the design of CD covers, while also honing his skills as a photographer. Simultaneously, he pursued his passion for acting, enrolling in classes with the esteemed coach Stephanie Feury.
As his confidence and abilities grew, Keyes began to land roles in various television shows. He secured a recurring part on the popular ABC Family series Three Moons Over Milford, and made guest appearances on hit programs such as CBS's Numb3rs and ABC's No Ordinary Family.
In 2009, Keyes joined the cast of the action-packed movie Ben 10: Alien Swarm, taking on the role of Kevin Levin, a character that would further solidify his status as a rising talent in the entertainment industry.
