Naomie Harris, a renowned British actress, was born in London, England, to a television scriptwriter mother, Lisselle Kayla, who was from Jamaica, and a father from Trinidad. However, her parents separated before she was born, and Harris was raised solely by her mother, with whom she has no relationship with her father.
Harris's passion for acting began at a young age, and she attended the prestigious Anna Scher Theatre School. Her early roles included appearances in Simon and the Witch (1987) and The Tomorrow People (1992). She then pursued a degree in social and political sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, an experience that she did not find enjoyable.
After graduating, Harris trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where she honed her acting skills. Her breakthrough role came in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later (2002),followed by notable performances in Miami Vice (2006),Small Island (2009),for which she received the Royal Television Society's best female actor award, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007).
Harris's portrayal of voodoo witch Tia Dalma in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise garnered international attention, and her role as field agent Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond film Skyfall (2012) further cemented her status as a talented actress.
Naomie Harris received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Moonlight (2016),which won the Best Picture Oscar that year.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of drama, Naomie Harris was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2017 New Year's Honours.
