Born on January 22, 1972, Namrata Shirodkar is an Aquarian, hailing from a moderate Marathi-speaking family, and one of the most stunning Bollywood actresses to have ever graced the silver screen. Initially residing in Khar, an upscale suburb in Bombay, she would go on to make a name for herself in the entertainment industry.
As the grand-daughter of the renowned actress Meenakshi Shirodkar, who starred in the 1930s classic Brahmachari, and was the first actress to wear a swimsuit and gambol in a pool, albeit to depict Lord Krishna bathing in the Holy river Yamuna with his gopis, Namrata's connection to the world of cinema was almost inevitable.
In addition to her acting prowess, Namrata is also a model, who rose to fame after being crowned Miss India in 1993. She further solidified her status as a beauty queen by finishing amongst the top six at Miss Universe in 1993, and was also chosen as the 1st runner up for Miss Asia Pacific during the same year.
As the sister of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shirodkar, Namrata is affectionately called "Chinoo" by her family and close friends. Her mother's name is Vanita, and she has a niece, Anushka, born in London in 2002. She maintains a close relationship with Shilpa, keeping in touch with her on a regular basis.
