Namakula is a multifaceted artist born to a unique blend of Ugandan and Jamaican heritage. Her father, an economics professor, and her mother, a feisty individual with omnipotent qualities, instilled in her a quirky and adventurous spirit.
Throughout her career, Namakula has explored various creative avenues as an actor, writer, video editor, and producer. She has worked extensively in the US and abroad, particularly in Spain, which she considered her second home for many years.
As an actor, Namakula has performed in a wide range of formats, including theatre, short films, TV, web series, commercials, voice-over, and stand-up comedy. Her offbeat humor has led to comedic roles on Conan O'Brien, a kooky "Broad City" promo, and a funny CDC webisode with Amber Ruffin.
Namakula has collaborated with renowned directors such as Nzingha Stewart, Charles Stone III, David Shane, and the legendary Joe Pytka. She has also lent her voice to prominent brands like Maybelline, McDonald's, Clinique, and Smirnoff.
Notably, she was the voice of REI's "Force of Nature" campaign, which won a Cannes Bronze Glass Lion in 2018. Additionally, she was cast as an understudy in Soho Rep's "Fariview," the 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Jackie Sibblies-Drury.
As a writer, Namakula has been crafting dark comedy scripts for years. Her spec sitcom scripts were shopped by Brillstein Grey, and she honed her skills on the NYC stand-up comedy circuit. Her irreverent comedy reel earned her a pitch meeting with the producers of MAD TV, and she later co-starred in her original dark comedy web series, "Kate & Kula."
As an editor, Namakula has worked under the guidance of top talents like Barry Alexander Brown, Rick Russell, and Kirk Baxter, as well as iconic figures such as Spike Lee, John Leguizamo, Sophie Muller, and Bob Giraldi. Her extensive editorial career has included crafting commercials, long-format projects, short films, and web content for major clients like Amex, Coca-Cola, Wendy's, and the MoMA.
As a producer, Namakula has created her own work and facilitated projects for other artists. Some of her notable productions include the multi-award-winning fashion film "Proclamation Punctuation," the international web series "The Groom," and the PBS/RadicalMedia documentary series "American Portrait."
When not immersed in her creative pursuits, Namakula enjoys lucid dreaming, exploring new lands, and playing dark tunes on the electric bass.
