Naeem Mohaiemen is a multifaceted artist who employs a diverse range of mediums including essays, films, photography, and installations to investigate the concepts of socialism, incomplete decolonization, shifting borders, and unreliable memory.
Throughout his work, Mohaiemen emphasizes the importance of recognizing the historic tendency of the left to misrecognize its allies, while also acknowledging the need for a future transnational left as a viable alternative to the current systems of oppression based on race and religion.
Mohaiemen has received numerous prestigious awards and honors, including being a 2014 Guggenheim Fellow, a 2018 Turner Prize finalist, and a 2019 Herb Alpert Award shortlist nominee.
His films have been showcased at international film festivals, and he is the author of several books, including "Midnight's Third Child" (forthcoming from Nokta) and "Prisoners of Shothik Itihash" (Kunsthalle Basel, 2014),as well as a co-editor of several other volumes.
Mohaiemen's work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions and biennales around the world and is housed in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Kiran Nadar Museum in Delhi, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Modern in London, among others.
He holds a PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University.
