Biography

Nadine Patterson is a renowned independent producer and director, boasting a diverse range of skills and experiences. With a solid foundation in theatre, she has also immersed herself in documentary filmmaking and extensively studied world cinema, allowing her to create works that are deeply rooted in historical contexts and feature a distinctive visual aesthetic.

Throughout her career, Nadine has had the privilege of teaching video production at several esteemed institutions, including West Chester University, Temple University, Arcadia University, Drexel University, and Scribe Video Center. Her impressive teaching credentials are matched only by her impressive body of work, which has garnered numerous awards and accolades.

Some of Nadine's most notable films include "I Used to Teach English," which won the Gold Apple Award at the 1994 National Educational Film/Video Festival in Oakland, California; "Anna Russell Jones: Praisesong for a Pioneering Spirit," which took home the Best Documentary prize at the 1993 African American Women in the Arts Film/Video Competition in Chicago, Illinois; "Moving with the Dreaming," which received the Prized Pieces award from the National Black Programming Consortium in 1997; and "Todo El Mundo Dance!," which was selected for the 2001-2002 Council on Foundations Film and Video Festival.

Nadine's impressive filmography also includes "Shizue," which was screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1991, and "Release," which was shown at the Constellation Change Dance Film Festival in London in 2006. In 2005, she completed her second master's degree at the prestigious London Film School.

Throughout her career, Nadine has received funding and support from a range of esteemed organizations, including The Philadelphia Foundation, The National Black Programming Consortium, The Bartol Foundation, and The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In 2010, she was awarded a fellowship in the arts from the Independence Foundation, and in 2011, she received a grant from the Pew Philadelphia Theater Initiative, along with Ain Gordon and the Painted Bride Art Center, to create a new work about forgotten historical places in Philadelphia.

In addition to her numerous film and teaching credits, Nadine is also an accomplished writer and has published her first book, "Always Emerging." In 2011, she completed principal photography for her first feature film as director, "Tango Macbeth."
