Biography

Clotilde Acosta, better known by her stage name Nacha Guevara, is a talented Argentine singer-songwriter, dancer, and actress born on October 3, 1940, in Mar de Plata, Buenos Aires province.

In the early 1970s, Nacha trained as a dancer and actress alongside poet Mario Benedetti and musician Alberto Favero, and it was during this time that she discovered her passion for singing, becoming a symbol of the avant-garde movement at the Instituto Di Tella in Buenos Aires.

With her unique voice and captivating stage presence, Nacha became a controversial cult figure in the underground movement and as a singer-songwriter in the "cafe-concert" scene, performing parodies and tunes by renowned artists such as Boris Vian, George Brassens, Tom Lehrer, and Nicolas Guillén, as well as Argentine writers like Julio Cortázar, Jorge de la Vega, and Ernesto Schoo.

Nacha adopted her stage name in the mid-1960s, with "Nacha" being a family tradition and "Guevara" representing a "problem of identity" before Che Guevara gained widespread recognition.

One of Nacha's most notable works is "Nacha sings Benedetti," a collaboration with Alberto Favero, where they adapted some of Mario Benedetti's most famous poems to music.

In 1973, Nacha's big revue "Las mil y una Nachas" received widespread critical acclaim and audience recognition, solidifying her status as a talented singer-songwriter.

However, Nacha's career was threatened by the Triple A death squad, and she was forced to exile herself to Peru and later Mexico in 1974.

Despite the challenges she faced, Nacha continued to perform and gain recognition in Mexico, Cuba, and Spain, with appearances in New York, Chicago, and Havana, before returning to Argentina.

Nacha has also had a successful acting career, appearing in numerous Argentine films and on Broadway, although she is best known for her extensive musical career, which has spanned several decades and taken her around the world.

After the end of the Argentine dictatorship, Nacha returned to her native country in 1984 and starred in Pedro Orgambide's "Eva," an Argentine answer to the musical "Evita" by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

In recent years, Nacha has won recognition as an actress, participating in movies and TV shows such as "Alas, Poder y Pasión" and films like "El Lado Oscuro del Corazón" and its sequel, where she plays the symbolic character of Death, who is in love with the hero and harasses him, trying to take him to the other side.
