Myra Davis Hemmings, a remarkable individual, dedicated her life to education and community service, spanning an impressive fifty years as a schoolteacher in the San Antonio public school system. Beyond her profession, she was a driving force in the African-American community, with a special passion for amateur theatrics.

Alongside her husband John, Myra co-founded the Hemmings Players, a talented group of amateur actors who brought joy and entertainment to San Antonio through their performances. Her academic achievements were equally impressive, graduating from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1913 and later earning a master's degree in speech from Northwestern in 1947.

Myra's contributions to the world of Greek life are also noteworthy, as she is one of the founders of the esteemed Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Her personal papers, a testament to her remarkable life and legacy, are now archived at the University of Texas - San Antonio library, where they remain a valuable resource for scholars and historians.
