Biography

Motofumi Yamaguchi, a trailblazing musician, joined Sado no Kuni Ondekoza in 1980, laying the groundwork for his future accomplishments. He was one of the pioneering members of Kodo, founded in 1981, and made significant contributions to the group's development.

As a dedicated student of fue, Yamaguchi began self-studying the bamboo flute in 1980, ultimately cementing its importance within the taiko ensemble. On stage, he showcases his versatility by playing fue, kokyu (Japanese violin),koto (harp),and shamisen (banjo).

Yamaguchi has also made a name for himself as a seasoned programme director and principal composer, crafting new pieces for Kodo and film/play soundtracks. In 1988, he ventured into solo work under the moniker "Ikkan Fugetsu," and in 2009, he released his debut solo album, Yamaguchi's first as a soloist.

In 2012, Yamaguchi was honored as a Kodo Distinguished Member. In addition to his work with Kodo, he continues to perform under the "Ikkan Fugetsu" name and regularly conducts shinobue (transverse bamboo flute) workshops.

Yamaguchi's second solo album, "Ikkan Fugetsu Vol. 2: Tomoshibi," was released in May 2015, further solidifying his reputation as a talented musician.
