Moon Moon Sen, born Srimati Sen, is a multifaceted personality who has made a significant impact in the Indian film and politics. With a career spanning over four decades, she has worked in more than 60 movies and 40 television shows across various languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil.
Born into an affluent family, Sen's parents are well-known figures in the Indian film industry. Her father belongs to one of the wealthiest families in Kolkata, and her mother was a renowned actress of her time. Sen pursued her education from Loreto Convent, Shillong, and later graduated from Somerville College, Oxford. She also holds a master's degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Before venturing into films, she taught English at Ballygunge Govt High School.
Sen made her debut in the Bengali film industry with the film Chorus in 1975. She went on to appear in several notable Bengali movies, including Rajbadhu, Rajeshwari, Ajantay, Baidurya Rahasya, Byabadhan, Hirer Angti, Nil Nirjane, Buno Haansh, and Bhobishyoter Bhoot. She also ventured into the Hindi film industry with the film Andar Baahar in 1984, followed by numerous other films like Musafir, Pyar Ki Jeet, Woh Phir Aayegi, Jeevan Ek Sanghursh, 100 Days, Kucch To Hai, It Was Raining That Night, and Bow Barracks Forever.
Sen has also worked in Malayalam films, including Chiriyo Chiri, Aval Kathirunnu Avanum, and Gentle Man Security. Her Telugu film credits include Yuga Purusha and Vaishakada Dinagalu. In addition to her film career, Sen joined the All India Trinamool Congress in March 2014 and won the 2014 Lok Sabha Polls. However, she lost the Asansol Lok Sabha Constituency election to Babul Supriyo of the BJP in 2019.
