Mladen Milicevic's journey as a filmmaker began in a family of creatives, with his mother serving as a film editor and his father as a director of photography. This early exposure to the industry likely influenced his decision to pursue a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in music composition and multimedia arts at The Music Academy of Sarajevo, his native Bosnia-Herzegovina.
His academic pursuits continued with a Master of Arts in experimental music composition from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and later, a Doctor of Musical Arts in computer music composition from the University of Miami in Florida.
Milicevic's professional career took off at a young age, scoring his first documentary film at just 18 years old. By the time he was 27, he had established himself as a successful film composer, working as a freelance composer, music producer, and audio engineer for over a decade. During this time, he composed music for theater, films, radio, and television, earning several awards and accolades for his work.
In 1998, Milicevic relocated to Los Angeles, where he restarted his film scoring career. He has since become an Emeritus Professor of Recording Arts at the Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television in Los Angeles.
Throughout his career, Milicevic has demonstrated his versatility as an artist, performing live electronic music, composing for modern dances, creating experimental animated films and videos, setting up installations and video sculptures, and even exhibiting his paintings. His academic interests are interdisciplinary, and he has presented at numerous international conferences on topics such as music, film, aesthetics, semiology, sociology, education, AI, religion, and cultural studies.
As a testament to his dedication to his craft, Milicevic continues to be an active and influential figure in the film and music industries, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and exploring new and innovative ways to express himself as an artist.
