Biography

Miriam Lois Frankel, a talented individual, was born on September 21, 1919, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois. She was the only child of Daniel Frankel, a salesman who later ventured into producing nightclub shows, and Miriam Elizabeth (Bly) Frankel, a skilled seamstress who went on to have a successful career in the wardrobe department of the show business.

Miriam's early beginnings in the entertainment industry were marked by her Broadway debut at the tender age of 19, in the musical revue "Sing Out the News" (1938),alongside the renowned actress June Allyson. This production featured a range of memorable songs, including the catchy tune "Sing Ho for Private Enterprise".

In 1941, Miriam tied the knot with Gene Nelson, a fellow dancer and actor, just two weeks after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. The couple relocated to Los Angeles, where fortune seemed to smile upon them. During a casual lunch at Paramount Studios with a friend, Miriam ran into an old acquaintance from New York, and this chance encounter led to a seven-year contract for acting and dancing.

Miriam's on-screen appearances were diverse and impressive, including a straight acting role as the secretary to Edward G. Robinson in the 1944 film "Double Indemnity", as well as her captivating dance work in the 1945 production "Duffy's Tavern". After her divorce from Gene Nelson in 1956, Miriam dedicated herself to choreography full-time.

Throughout her illustrious career, Miriam worked on numerous television projects, including "The Red Skelton Hour", "Father Knows Best", "The Lucy Show", "The Love Boat", and "Murder, She Wrote". Her first credited big-screen choreography was for the 1956 crime comedy "He Laughed Last", directed by Blake Edwards, which told the story of a chorus girl. Miriam's final screen credit was for the romantic drama "Out of the Cold" (2001),starring Keith Carradine, which was released on DVD.
