Biography

Miriam Cutler is a renowned Emmy-nominated composer with a diverse portfolio spanning independent film, television, and even circus music. Her impressive background has earned her recognition among her peers, including membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Documentary Branch, which she joined in June 2013.

Miriam's recent projects include scoring the 2014 Primetime Emmy winner One Last Hug, as well as American Promise, which received the Special Documentary Jury Prize at Sundance 2013 and was nominated for an Oscar. Her passion for documentary filmmaking has led to a focus on non-fiction projects, resulting in a wide range of credits, including award-winning and festival favorites such as Poster Girl (HBO),Ethel (Sundance/HBO),Vito (HBO),Desert Of Forbidden Art (PBS/Independent Lens),and many more.

In addition to her composing work, Miriam has also co-produced the film One Lucky Elephant (OWN) and served as a lab advisor for the Sundance Institute Documentary Composers Lab. She has also served on documentary juries for various prestigious film festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival, Independent Spirit Awards, International Documentary Association Awards, and American Film Institute's Film Festival Awards. Moreover, Miriam is a long-time member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists Board and has co-produced two Grammy-nominated live jazz albums on PolyGram/Verve for Joe Williams, as well as albums for Nina Simone, Shirley Horn, and Marlena Shaw.
