FXMike Strain Jr.'s fascination with special make-up effects began at the tender age of twelve, influenced by his father's artistic endeavors and his own passion for creation and illusions. This early fascination led him to experiment with various materials, crafting basic appliances and latex slip masks. As he delved deeper into the world of special effects, he discovered the works of Lon Chaney and Dick Smith, forever changing the trajectory of his career.
From the early 1980s to the mid-1990s, FXMike created a plethora of effects for numerous commercials, plays, and TV shows, including the popular programs Rescue 911 and America's Most Wanted. In 1994, he was hired to create the make-up FX, props, and pyrotechnics for his first feature film, "Sinistre".
In 1995, FXMike took the helm, directing his first feature film, "Vile 21", a sci-fi action horror film that was later distributed on home video. Since then, he has created an impressive array of special effects, including make-up FX, props, pyrotechnics, physical FX, breakaways, creatures, custom costumes, and more, for over 80 feature films, as well as hundreds of commercials, TV shows, live productions, and exhibits.
FXMike's notable work includes the films and TV shows "You're Next", "The Aggression Scale", "VHS", "Darkness Reigns", and "Demon Files", as well as an Atlanta Lottery commercial featuring a dog on a toilet, and many more.
In 1989, Strain founded his production company, Studio 2060, which has since produced and co-produced hundreds of projects, including feature films, videos, and commercials. The company's latest co-production is Vincent's Vow, with a slate of upcoming projects slated for production this year.
Today, FXMike continues to share his passion for creation with his wife Lily, son Madison, and daughter-in-law Jerica, who regularly crew shows and travel together. Still based in Springfield, Missouri, FXMike remains dedicated to creating special effects and producing entertainment worldwide.
